Pakistani officials: Suspected US strike kills 8

A suspected U.S. missile attack killed eight militants including several foreigners Wednesday in the stronghold of Pakistan's top Taliban commander, intelligence officials said.

The strike came as President Barack Obama's administration prepares to unveil a new strategy to quell Islamist insurgents threatening nuclear-armed Pakistan as well as neighboring Afghanistan and to keep the pressure on al-Qaida leaders in the region.

Rhodia Takes Control of Slovak Affiliate.

Rhodia has acquired the 43% it does not own of nylon-6 producer Chemlon (Humene, Slovakia) from the Slovak government for an undisclosed sum. Rhodia's existing 57% stake is held via Rhne-Poulenc Holding (RPH; Amsterdam), a subsidiary of Rhodia and Nylstar--Rhodia's 50-50 jv with Snia (Milan).

Chemlon is the only nylon producer in the former Czechoslovakia. It has 45,000 m.t./year of capacity--about half industrial yarn and half textile yarn. It exports over 90% of its production, mainly to the Czech Republic and western Europe.

Aug. 4--Penny Arnold said she would go "to the ends of the Earth" to see her husband before he deploys to Iraq, and it is starting to look as though she might have to get going.

Soldiers with the Tennessee National Guard's 1/181st Field Artillery Battalion training at Fort Bliss, Texas, are scheduled to take a few days of leave at the end of August before they deploy to Iraq. But most of the 345 soldiers must provide their own transportation -- a prospect that is out of reach for many of their families.

KINDERHOOK Saratoga County Sheriff's Department investigators sent teams of investigators Saturday to re-question a woman who heard rumors that Mary Ann Powell, the pregnant woman missing for a month, was hiding out in Kinderhook.

Earlier in the day, State Police dismissed the report received late Friday night that Powell, the pregnant 22-year-old woman who will have been missing a month on Tuesday, was hiding out in Kinderhook.
